While she has a tense standing with Sgt. Platt, it is revealed by her sister that she respects her superior who pushed her to pursue going into Intelligence. Burgess is a former flight attendant and still remains close to the friends she made in her co-workers. She is very good at her job as a patrol officer and has proved to be a good candidate for Intelligence. She has a good partnership with her partner and close friend, Kevin Atwater.
Kim sometimes goes to babysit Kevin's younger siblings. Both she and Kevin are constant targets of Desk Sergeant Platt's attitude. However, they are generally able to laugh it off after shift.
