Becoming a hospice volunteer at Sutter Care at Home San Mateo County is the greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to listen. Volunteering can be as simple as sitting by the bedside, offering a massage or reiki, reading a book or running a quick errand for our patients and their family member.
Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. Being a hospice volunteer is a great opportunity to practice compassion and discover your skills and learn new ones during the end-of-life care. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.

Volunteers may stay with the patient to give the caregiver some time away or time to rest and they can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families.
While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, they may be able to assist with routine tasks and errands. Requirements: Volunteers receive 24 hours of training, health clearance and a background check, and attend monthly educational meetings.
