Heavin Maier founded Eyes For Life in She is grateful to her patients for having spread the word about the care they received at Eyes For Life, enabling the practice to really blossom. As the practice grows, Dr. Maier enjoys looking for new technology and products to better solve patient needs, such technology includes Lipiflow to treat chronic evaporative dry eye, and Neurolens, a lens designed to relieve migraines, neck pain, and eyestrain on the computer.
While Dr. Maier has called many places across the country home, she refers to Kenai, Alaska as her hometown. Maier was drawn away from environmental research to the field of optometry by her desire to work directly with people in a scientifically based, yet relationship building career.
She then moved to Spokane to make a home with her husband, fellow optometric physician, Mitchell Maier. In her after-work hours she devotes time to two children and enjoys caring for an assortment of poultry, and more recently, the additional of Highland Cows. Other hobbies include gardening, cooking, hiking, downhill skiing, high intensity interval training, and obstacle course races.
She is a proud member of the American Optometric Association. She partners with Optometry Giving Sight, a global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error. She previously has served on the board of directors for Lutheran Community Services, and has volunteered as an assistant cross-country coach for the Oaks Classical Christian School.
