Chandler Muriel Bing is one of the main characters on the popular sitcom Friends β , portrayed by the late Matthew Perry. Chandler has a very good sense of humor, and is notoriously sarcastic, an attribute he calls a defense mechanism he developed due to his parents' divorcing when he was a child. His best friends are Joey Tribbiani and Ross Geller. Chandler has a habit of asking rhetorical questions that start with "Could it be any more?
At the age of 9 after just finishing Thanksgiving diner, his parents announced their divorce leaving him distraught and alarmed. Subsequently, he resorted to what he calls "a carefully regimented program" of denial, sarcasm, wetting the bed and smoking. He has claimed to have seen sexually provocative scenes since the age of 7 due to his parents' lack of awareness.
Despite his forgiving nature he still holds a grudge against both of his parents for being absent-minded and not providing emotional support and tends to be bitter whenever talking about them. For high school He went to an all-boys boarding school then went to Columbia University in Manhattan where his roommate was Ross Geller, with whom he became best friends. Chandler was trying to get a new roommate after his old one Kip moved out when Joey Tribbiani applied, but Chandler passed him over.
When his first choice was goaded into leaving by Mr. Heckles , an odd tenant in the same building, he was forced to accept Joey, but they soon became best friends.
Throughout most of the series, Chandler is an executive specialized in statistical analysis and data reconfiguration, occupying high-grade positions such as Processing Manager and head of the office. Though he has a high pay, he frequently complains about his dislike of his job, even deciding to quit in Season 9 , finding employment as a Junior Copywriter in an advertising agency; this is a job he greatly enjoys, demonstrated by his willingness to take an internship opportunity, even though it means having to start from the very beginning of a new career.
