Former rural village, Aubervilliers is now one of the most important cities in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis. Formerly known as Notre-Dame-des-Vertus, the town was the mid-fourteenth century to the late eighteenth century an important place of pilgrimage because of a miracle appeared in one of the churches.
