Basically all adult are expected to give gifts to children as the wise men gave gifts to Baby Jesus. For many families it is the only time they buy or sew new clothes for their children.
This might be the only time they will do such, thus strengthening. Some family will even settle family matters. My mum always had to cook a lot of food varieties and share with her Muslim friends.
As expected due to religious tolerance in our country, they are always excited to eat it. This is done in a bid to express the love of Christ beyond borders. Most churches will have at least a short Christmas service. Majority of the people will wear new suits and African attire. Lot of carols will be sang and some churches will have a christmas drama. Christmas period is the most happy and festive month in Sierra Leone. Everyone wants to celebrate it in Sierra Leone in their own way. Youths will also go to the beach for swimimg or beach walk with friends.
I love the concept of the emphasis on family bond and love durig Christmas in Sierra Leone. Family has played and will continue to play a huge role in the Christendom.
Most of us had our first encounter with Christ and the meaning of agape love through our family. It disheartens me that people will use such an important religious period to do lot of immoral things.
