It relies on predictable sex jokes, like a lot of crappy sitcoms, and the characters are pretty annoying. Occasionally Schmitt makes me laugh, but in general, the show tries too hard. I was particularly annoyed with an episode I watched recently. This is a story that girls have been going on and on about since middle school.
All the girls were crowded around her offering support, some trying to find articles in Seventeen magazine that would help us solve this dilemma. The whole dating process in the US is confusing. TV shows and movies build up expectations that relationships are great.
Instead, we have to learn to play the game. We have to build a portfolio of pick-up lines that are sexy without being creepy and funny without being cheezy. We have to learn where to go and what to wear on the first date. What looks cheap? We have to remember how many days to wait before contacting again. We have to learn how to interpret text messages. Ever wonder why Pepe le Pew scores every time, and makes it look so easy?
None of that is weird. They spend time together in groups, or just hang out. When an American girl dates a French guy, sure, it can be confusing. When I met Emile, it started in the usual American way.
