The recent arrest has since sparked a conversation among national advocates, who work nonstop to try to put an end to this type of abuse. All three suspects face at least one count of sexual battery of a child under 12 years old, jail records show.
If convicted, they could face the death penalty under new Florida law for the capital crime. Two of them were also booked on a second count as well as two counts each of cruelty toward a child by allowing the child to engage in sex and felony criminal conspiracy. CBS12 News has opted not to use their names in this article to protect the victims.
While no connection between the suspects and the victims were listed in the reports, one of the suspects is accused of sexual battery by the custodian of a victim who is under 12 years old. According to the probable cause affidavits, authorities first learned about the allegations when someone told deputies about hearing how the children talked about being pulled out of their beds and assaulted in front of a laptop for paying viewers.
Days later, at a child protection center, one of the victims recounted being abused and told investigators that it had been going on for approximately five years, the reports continued. The victims detailed how the attacks happened and would reference a laptop on which other people would pay and watch, investigators stated.
