Xabi Alonso will make his highly-anticipated step up to a top managerial role in the summer when he takes over at Borussia Monchengladbach, it has been reported. Marco Rose is currently in charge of the Bundesliga side but has already been announced as Borussia Dortmund's next manager, replacing Lucian Favre at the end of the season. And now German publication Bild report that Monchengladbach chiefs have landed Rose's replacement with Alonso set to arrive from his present role with Real Sociedad B.
Alonso's stock has risen during an impressive spell in charge of Real Sociedad's B team. Monchengladbach have been enduring an awful run of form, having lost eight of their last 10 games and been dumped out of the Champions League by Manchester City but won at Schalke at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder's stock is very high and he has been coaching Sociedad's B team in the third tier of Spanish football. There was a general feeling that he would eventually take the reins of the first-team at Anoeta, following in the footsteps of Imanol in rising from the B team to the top job.
But with Imanol currently impressing in the hot-seat, Alonso has opted to speed up his journey to a top European club by heading to the Bundesliga. The year-old ended his career in German football with Bayern Munich in , before heading to Real Madrid's youth academy to begin his coaching career. Marco Rose is currently Monchengladbach boss, but they've lost eight of their last 10 matches.
