It is the nervous system that allows for tension and tightness in the tissues, and without participation from the nervous system, that tension will not be released.
By working gently AND deeply at the same time, Myofascial Release gives the nervous system time to make the necessary changes to the tension in the soft tissues that can cause myriad symptoms of pain and discomfort. There are essentially two categories of myofascial release techniques: Direct and Indirect.
I use both. Direct Myofascial Release utilizes is more like a very slow and deep tissue massage. By working slowly, without oil, the nervous system has a chance to create change in the soft tissue skin, muscle, fascia, tendon, nerve. Indirect Myofascial Release uses specific holds and gentle stretches to allow tension patterns to fully and completely release and unwind, leaving the client with a body that feels lighter and moves in a more fluid, easy way.
