Massage as a healing technique has stood the test of time. We would be hard pressed to find a culture that has not embraced it for centuries, and for good reason - not only is there the power to heal through massage, but it relieves physical, mental and emotional stress and provides instant gratification for the patient through relaxation. Massage can be used on its own to treat many physical and emotional issues as well as in conjunction with other medical therapies.
Our remedial massage therapists approach their craft from a holistic point of view, meaning that their intentions lie in establishing the underlying issues within the problem that presents, and working with the whole body to aid its repair and maintenance.
Many patients benefit from regular treatment, but, depending on the individual, one-off or occasional sessions may be enough. Where further assessment is required, our therapists may refer patients to one of our osteopaths or our naturopath, who also embrace a holistic approach. There may be instances where a referral back to your GP is advised. This method of massage aims to facilitate healing where stressed muscles, joints, or tendons are contributory factors. The technique ranges from light to deep pressure depending on the issue presenting, and is a perfect complement to osteopathic treatments.
The process will often include trigger point therapy where knots in the muscles are calmed through pressure application. This technique targets the trigger point itself, along with areas that may be tense through referred pain from this point. Relaxation massage is intended to do just that. This can be beneficial for people who need a little time to escape and recoup during stressful times. It is also used in conjunction with other techniques to relax the body, enabling more effective access to problem areas.
Where patients present with a severe injury or prolonged issue, deep tissue massage may be required. This targets the superficial muscles, deep muscles, and connective tissue.
