This seems like a good enough place for us to start our journey into what FKK is, where it came from, and what you can expect from an FKK club. FKK originated in Germany, and it is often credited as the very first naturistic movement. It endorses a nudist approach to athletics and, in more extreme cases, even community living. Many FKK clubs come complete with saunas, private rooms, bars, and cinemas.
Although almost any FKK club in is likely to have a sexual element to it, it is important to note: there is no direct relationship to sex in FKK culture, at least not if we look at the origins of FKK and what it was originally meant to be. The German FKK nudist movement was the first one to gain traction in the world, believe it or not. And it has been rather successful in transforming the broader culture of Germany since its roots in the 18th century.
Today, in part due to the FKK movement, Germany's laws are relatively lax when it comes to public nudity, as well as the ever-increasing social acceptance of public nudity in the country. There are very few laws against public nudity in Germany today thanks to FKK.
Naked bathing in rivers and lakes was a very common occurrence in central Europe up until the 18th century. Before the rise of the FKK movement, though, such nude bathing was frequently segregated by sex; men bathed in the nude in one area, women in another.
By the end of the 18th century, public bathing in the nude became more and more taboo. The first FKK club was established in Essen in , and it caught on quickly. Just 2 years later, in the year , Swedish Baths gained popularity, and people started to see them pop up in Berlin, as well as on the North and Baltic seas.
