That designation has important legal consequences that restrict the conditions under which such applications are considered. There is, to date, no common list of safe countries of origin at EU level.
First, the classification of Moldova as a safe country of origin by the Czech Republic is or, it would seem, was at the relevant time subject to a territorial exception in relation to Transnistria, a region in the eastern part of the country, adjacent to the Ukrainian border.
